Health Certificates for travel with large animals

When you need to take your animal on a trip, it's important to have all the necessary documentation.  And to make the trip enjoyable and stress-free, find out in advance what you need to know.  Here are a few tips to help you with the process of getting a health certificate for your animal(s):

• Check the requirements of your transporter and your destination
  • Is the animal permitted to enter the destination?
  • Do you need specific identification information (microchip, ear tags, etc.)?
  • Are specific tests required? When do they need to be performed?
  • Are specific vaccinations required? When do they need to be performed?
  • Is there a quarantine period required by your destination?
  • Does the animal need to be inspected by a state veterinarian?
  • How soon before travel does the health certificate need to be written?

• When you schedule the appointment to get your health certificate, please have this information ready:
  • Contact information for the destination (name, address, and phone number).
  • All necessary identification for the animal(s).
  • The travel date(s)
