Minnesota Valley Veterinary Service’s Puppy Vaccine Protocol

While every puppy needs to be evaluated on an individual basis, we recommend the following schedule for majority of our puppies. This ensures that our vaccines stimulate their immune system to develop and protect them while the antibodies from their mother’s milk wane.

  • 8 weeks
    • DAPP combination (includes Distemper, Adenovirus, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza)
    • +/- Bordetella (also called Kennel cough)
      • If going to puppy classes within the next 4 weeks/before next booster visit
  • 12 weeks
    • DAPP
    • Lyme
    • Leptospirosis
    • +/- Bordetella
    • +/- Canine Influenza Vaccine
  • 16 weeks
    • DAPP
    • Rabies
    • Lyme
    • Leptospirosis
    • +/- Bordetella
    • +/- Canine Influenza Vaccine

Bolded vaccines are considered core vaccines that all dogs need regardless of lifestyle or location. Non-bolded vaccines are recommended based on your dog’s lifestyle, location, and age.

Depending on your dog’s lifestyle, a DAPP booster at 20 weeks may be recommended.  For more detailed information, see the AAHA canine vaccine guidelines
